Isabelle Webb: Legend of the Jewel by N.C. Allen. Published by Covenant Communications, Inc.

In the aftermath of the Civil War, Isabelle Webb and her young friend Sally Rhodes, are a long way from their home in America. They are across the Atlantic Ocean, in England, awaiting a steamship bound for Bombay. There they meet James Ashby, who is, coincidentaly, going on the the same boat bound for Bombay. Although hesitant at first, Isabelle and Sally come to know and trust James. When they find out his trip to India isn't for pleasure, they cancel their vacation plans and join James on a search for his missing brother, a mystical gem, and ill-reputed Thaddeus Sparks.

I really enjoyed this book. It is beautifully written, and the detail is amazing. As cliche as this sounds, I felt the characters coming to life. They seemed real, with peronality and depth. I was entertained the whole time, because new twists kept happening. A great read. I highly recommend it for ages 14 and up.
